Williamsburg Locksmith — Licensed 24/7 Service for Brooklyn's Most Diverse Building Stock

Locksmith in Williamsburg, NY

Golden Key is a licensed, bonded and insured locksmith serving Williamsburg, Brooklyn since 1984. Our professional technicians provide lock changes, rekeying, deadbolt installation, emergency lockout service and complete security solutions across zip codes 11206, 11211 and 11249 — Bedford Avenue, Grand Street, Metropolitan Avenue, Graham Avenue and the waterfront.

No Brooklyn neighborhood has a wider range of building types than Williamsburg. Tenement walk-ups from the 1920s with original mortise hardware sit next to warehouse lofts converted in the 1990s with industrial-weight doors, next to glass-fronted waterfront condos with electronic fob systems built last year. A locksmith who carries only standard residential hardware will fail on two of those three. Our service vehicles stock mortise cylinders, rim locks, commercial-grade deadbolts, electronic access hardware, smart lock systems and high-security cylinders from Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, Schlage and Yale — because a Williamsburg Brooklyn locksmith needs all of it on any given day.

Every technician is trained, licensed and background-checked. Williamsburg landlords managing tenant turnover across dozens of units, commercial property owners on Bedford Avenue and Metropolitan Avenue, and residents in everything from railroad apartments to penthouse condos trust Golden Key with access to their properties. We have earned that trust through forty years of professional, insured locksmith service throughout Brooklyn — not through a website, but through the kind of work that gets recommended by supers, neighbors and property managers who have used us repeatedly.

Williamsburg Lock & Security Services

Residential: lock changes, rekeying, deadbolt installation and upgrade, smart lock setup, mailbox locks, apartment and building entrance security. Loft-specific: industrial door hardware, oversized mortise locks, commercial-grade cylinders for converted warehouse doors. Commercial: master key systems, rolling gate locks, electronic keypad access, panic bar installation, high-security hardware for bars, restaurants, retail and offices along Bedford, Metropolitan and Grand.

For multi-unit buildings, we coordinate full rekeying — every apartment door, shared entrance and common area — in a single visit. All hardware is professional-grade and manufacturer-warranted. All installations meet current NYC building code and fire safety requirements.

Williamsburg Home & Business Security

Williamsburg’s tenant turnover rate is among the highest in Brooklyn, which makes rekeying the most important security service for both landlords and incoming tenants. Every lock a departing tenant had a key to — apartment, building entrance, mailbox, storage — should be rekeyed before the next occupant moves in. We handle the full sequence in one visit.

For the neighborhood’s commercial properties — restaurants, bars, retail, creative offices — security needs vary by business type. We install reinforced rolling-gate locks, commercial deadbolts, electronic access systems and multi-point locking hardware for glass storefronts. Licensed, insured and compliant with all applicable NYC codes.

Licensed locksmith service in Williamsburg since 1984 — from the first warehouse loft conversions to today’s waterfront towers. Golden Key: the Brooklyn locksmith Williamsburg relies on.

Mark came to our apartment after we couldn't lock the door. He replaced the internal cylinder and made it safer with a Mul-T-Lock upgrade.

    Chloe Glasberg

Needed urgent lock change for our DUMBO store. They used Mul-T-Lock cylinders for extra security. Highly recommend.

Kenny replaced weatherstripping on a revolving door at our Upper West Side building. Immediate improvement. The lobby feels like it's summer again during the dead of winter.

Williamsburg Neighborhood Notes from Our Technicians

Williamsburg covers more building types than any other neighborhood we service in Brooklyn. The Bedford Avenue / Driggs Avenue corridor, Berry Street, Wythe Avenue, and the North 6th through North 12th blocks mix industrial loft conversions with new high-rise condos and converted brownstones — the Edge, Northside Piers, and 1 North 4th tower complexes alone have hundreds of units operating on key-fob and access-card systems we maintain. South of Division Avenue, around Lee Avenue and lower Bedford, the housing stock shifts to Hasidic-community apartment buildings where we coordinate scheduling around Shabbos and Yom Tov windows.

Loft-conversion hardware is the Williamsburg specialty most other locksmiths can’t handle without on-site improvisation. The Wythe Avenue and Kent Avenue factory-to-residential conversions still have steel rolling gates at the original loading docks, freight-elevator key cylinders that need restricted-keyway control, 3½-inch solid-core entry doors that won’t accept a standard residential deadbolt, and original cast-iron strike plates that have to be re-mortised whenever the cylinder is upgraded. We carry extended-spindle Medeco and Mul-T-Lock deadbolts, custom-length through-bolts, and freight-elevator-compatible cylinder cores so the install does not damage the building’s industrial character.

Short-term-rental and small-hotel key management is the third pillar of our Williamsburg work. Operators along Berry, Wythe, and Grand Street use our key-coding service to issue and revoke per-guest cylinders, and we install electronic commercial-grade keypad and Bluetooth locks at building entrances paired with mechanical apartment cylinders so the front-of-house can operate hands-free while the unit-side stays on a hard key. For the Edge / Northside Piers / 1 N 4th high-rise condos we maintain master-key hierarchies, fob-system replacements after lost cards, and the post-closing rekey chain when sponsor units sell.

Our Williamsburg service area runs from McCarren Park and Greenpoint Avenue south to the Williamsburg Bridge, river to Union Avenue, including South Williamsburg’s Lee Avenue / Bedford-south-of-Division corridor. Off-peak we typically arrive at Bedford Avenue addresses in 20–35 minutes from Midtown via the Williamsburg Bridge, and we maintain a Brooklyn tech rotation that hits North Williamsburg and Domino Park faster during evenings and weekends. For Hasidic-community work in South Williamsburg we coordinate around Friday-evening and Saturday-night service windows; just mention it when you call and we’ll schedule accordingly.

        Williamsburg Locksmith FAQ

My Wythe Avenue loft has a 3½-inch solid-core entry door from the original factory conversion. Will a standard Schlage or Kwikset fit?

No. Standard residential deadbolts are specified for 1¾-inch doors with a 2⅜-inch backset. For Williamsburg loft doors we use Medeco Maxum or Mul-T-Lock MT5+ deadbolts with extended spindles and custom through-bolts, plus a re-mortised strike that fits the original cast-iron jamb. We carry all three common door depths in the van, and most installs take 60–90 minutes.

I run an Airbnb on Berry Street and my last cleaner kept a key. Do I need to replace the lock or can you rekey it?

For restricted-keyway cylinders (Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, Abloy) a rekey is enough — the prior key becomes mechanically dead the moment we finish, and we hand you a fresh set on certified blanks. For standard residential cylinders on a short-term-rental door we recommend upgrading to a restricted-keyway cylinder paired with an electronic keypad on the building entry so you can issue and revoke per-guest codes without dispatching a locksmith between every turnover.

My Edge condo lost its key fob. Can you reprogram a replacement same-day?

For most Williamsburg high-rise condos (Edge, Northside Piers, 1 North 4th, the Domino properties) we keep replacement fob blanks in stock and reprogram on-site once the building manager has authorized the unit-holder. Same-day turnaround if we have manager authorization in hand by 2 PM; otherwise next-business-day. For full master-fob rotations across an entire building we coordinate with the property’s access-control vendor and typically schedule a 2–3 hour after-hours window.

Our building on Lee Avenue needs work but Friday evening through Saturday is off-limits. Can you accommodate?

Yes. We schedule South Williamsburg jobs around Shabbos, Yom Tov, and the Three Weeks where requested. Mention it when booking and we’ll lock in a Sunday-through-Thursday window or an early-Friday slot that finishes well before sundown. Emergency lockouts we still take 24/7, but standard service work we coordinate to your community’s calendar.

My Wythe Avenue freight elevator still uses a key cylinder for the dock-level lock-out. Can you re-pin it?

Yes. Freight-elevator cylinders on industrial-conversion buildings are typically Best, Schlage Everest, or Mul-T-Lock SFIC cores. We carry replacement cores and pinning kits for all three and we can either re-pin the existing core to a new key bitting or swap to a new restricted-keyway core so the building’s elevator key registry resets cleanly. For board-managed loft buildings we issue a documented key list as part of the job.
