Commercial & Residential Access Control Installation in NYC
Control Who Enters Your Property — and When
Golden Key Locksmith NYC installs and services access control systems for New York City offices, buildings, storefronts, and residential properties that need better control over who can enter and when.
We work with key fob systems, keypad access, card readers, RFID credentials, electric strikes, door hardware, and related lock upgrades so your entry points fit the way your property is actually used.
From a single suite door to a full multi-tenant building, we design the system around your traffic, your tenants, and NYC egress code — then install and support it.

We Provide the Best Access Control Systems in NYC
Fingerprint Access Control
Biometric fingerprint readers are one of the most effective ways to deter unauthorized entry, because the credential can’t be lost, copied, or handed off. We install and service fingerprint door locks for offices, labs, and high-security rooms, enroll and remove users on site, and pair the reader with the right electric strike or maglock so the door still meets NYC egress requirements.
Keypad Access Control
A keypad system lets staff enter a code instead of carrying a key — and you can change that code as often as you like, instantly revoking access after turnover without re-keying a single lock. We install standalone and networked keypads, set up multiple codes with different permissions, and help you choose a model sized to your door traffic.
Key Card Entry System
Key card and proximity-card access is a premium, scalable system for a single door or an entire building. Cards are easy to issue, deactivate, and audit, so you always know who entered and when. Our team designs the reader layout, wires the controllers, and integrates the system with your existing door hardware and, if needed, your alarm.
Key Fob Entry System
Key fob entry is the workhorse of NYC multi-tenant buildings: durable RFID fobs for the lobby, elevators, and amenity doors, managed from a single controller. We install a wide range of fob systems, program and revoke fobs on lease turnover, and keep spares on hand so a lost fob is a five-minute fix rather than a security gap.
Access Control for NYC Offices, Buildings & Storefronts
Access control replaces mechanical keys with credentials you can issue and revoke on demand — fobs, cards, codes, fingerprints, or a phone. For any property with staff turnover, multiple tenants, or doors you can’t easily re-key, that control is the whole point: when someone leaves, you deactivate their credential instead of changing locks.
Credential types. RFID fobs and proximity cards are the most common in NYC buildings — cheap to issue, easy to revoke, and durable. Keypads avoid physical credentials entirely (good for low-traffic back doors), but codes get shared, so they suit lower-security openings. Biometric readers tie entry to a person rather than a token, which is why labs, server rooms, and cash rooms use them. Mobile credentials (phone-as-badge) are growing fastest because there’s nothing to hand out or collect. For a deeper comparison, see our guide to RFID door access control systems.
The locking hardware matters as much as the reader. Most access-controlled doors use either an electric strike (the door stays mechanically latched; the strike releases the keeper) or a magnetic lock (a maglock holds the door with electromagnetic force). Electric strikes suit most office and suite doors; maglocks suit glass and frameless doors where there’s no place for a strike. We commonly install the HES 9500 electric strike on aluminum storefront and office doors.
Fail-safe vs. fail-secure — and NYC egress code. This is the detail most DIY installs get wrong. A fail-safe lock unlocks when power is cut; a fail-secure lock stays locked. NYC Building Code §1010 requires that occupants can always leave in an emergency, so egress doors and anything on a fire-alarm circuit must release on power loss and allow free exit in the direction of egress. We design every system so the door is secure against entry but never traps people inside — including tying maglocks into the fire-alarm relay and adding request-to-exit sensors where required.
Cloud-managed systems. For properties that want to add and revoke credentials from a phone instead of a wall panel, we install and service Brivo, Salto KS, Schlage NDE/LE wireless, and Kisi. These are ideal for high-turnover spaces — gyms, co-working, restaurants, and multi-site businesses — where an office manager needs to grant access remotely.
Cameras and entry, together. Access logs tell you a credential opened a door; video tells you who actually walked through. For properties that need both, we coordinate entry hardware with video surveillance so the two systems reinforce each other rather than running as disconnected silos.

Frequently Asked Questions
Unlock our most frequently asked questions about access control systems in NYC.
What types of access control systems do you install in NYC?
We install key fob and proximity-card systems, keypad (PIN) entry, biometric fingerprint readers, RFID credentials, mobile/phone-based credentials, and the supporting hardware — electric strikes, magnetic locks, controllers, and request-to-exit sensors. We also service and expand cloud-managed platforms like Brivo, Salto KS, Schlage wireless, and Kisi.
How is access control better than just using keys?
Credentials can be issued and revoked instantly. When an employee or tenant leaves, you deactivate their fob, card, or code in seconds instead of re-keying every lock and collecting keys you may never get back. You also get an audit trail — a record of which credential opened which door and when — which keys can never give you.
Can access control work with my existing doors and locks?
In most cases, yes. We retrofit access control onto existing aluminum storefront, wood, and metal doors using electric strikes or maglocks sized to the door, and we integrate with the latch hardware you already have where it’s sound. Glass and frameless doors usually take a maglock; standard suite doors usually take an electric strike.
Does an access control system meet NYC fire and egress code?
It must, and we design every install to comply. NYC Building Code §1010 requires that people can always exit in an emergency. We use fail-safe hardware on egress and fire-alarm circuits so doors release on power loss, add request-to-exit sensors where required, and tie magnetic locks into the building fire-alarm relay — the door stays secure against entry but never traps anyone inside.
Can I manage access from my phone or remotely?
Yes — with a cloud-managed system (Brivo, Salto KS, Kisi, or Schlage wireless) you add and revoke credentials, set schedules, and review entry logs from a phone or browser. This is ideal for high-turnover or multi-site businesses where a manager needs to grant or cut access without being on site.
Can access control integrate with security cameras?
Absolutely, and we recommend it for higher-security properties. Access logs tell you a credential opened a door; video tells you who actually entered. We coordinate the entry system with video surveillance so the two work together, giving you both a credential record and visual confirmation for each opening.
